Community Service
In honor of Blessed Anne Marie Rivier Feast Day and her commitment to serving others, the entire student body, faculty, staff and administration participate in a service day once a year. It is our hope that this annual event will foster a spirit of service within our school community that will encourage a continued commitment to serve others throughout the year.
We serve at 25 different agencies, schools, soup kitchens, nursing homes, YMCA’s etc. Our goal is that each member of our community comes to know the joy of giving others their most valuable gift – themselves – and one of their most precious resources – their time.
Quotes from Students
“Volunteering at the Mellmark School for Autistic Children in Andover made an everlasting impression on me. Walking into the classrooms filled with bright smiles and eager eyes made my day. Even though I did a few simple tasks, it seemed like everyone was benefiting from my work. The staff was very appreciative of my limited service, but I think I was the one who benefited the most from it. I love the Mellmark School and I feel my experience there made me a better and more well rounded young adult. Now I appreciate more in life.” -Kaylyn (volunteered at Melmark School)
“It made me realize how a couple of hours can make someone’s day and that I should spend more time with my grandmother!” -Priscilla (volunteered at the Mary Immaculate Nursing Home)
“What I liked most about my experience was seeing young kids. I forgot how energetic and kind they were. One boy got upset because “Miss Caitlin” didn’t have a snack, so he shared. It was so sweet.” -Caitlin (volunteered at St. Mary’s Assumption School in Lawrence)
“It was extremely humbling and opened my eyes to the great poverty troubles in the world. I realized how lucky I am and respect what have more now.” -Madeline (volunteered at Lazarus House Thrift Shop)
“Serving people in need really made me think that it wasn’t about us, it was about them. It was interesting and fun to meet some of the elderly women and to help them. I would definitely go back!” -Jenna (volunteered at Halcyon House)
Quotes from Agencies
“It gave the students the chance to see elders in a different light. Also, gave them the opportunity to see how rewarding service of others can be.” -Debbie Vitulli (Mary Immaculate Health Care)
“Enjoyed that high school students and our grammar school students are working together for the mission of Catholic education.” -Ms. Vina Troianello, Principal St Mary of the Assumption School
“The girls enjoyed serving; they found humor, yet did the work responsibly. For me, it was a perfect day: service well accomplished, timing adequate (although the girls asked to stay on) and fun filled.” -Sr. Virginia Heron Marion House
Quote from Faculty
“What I liked most about the day was seeing everyone excited about they did. The teamwork was great to see. I really enjoyed sharing this day with the students. Thank you!” -Janice MacDonald, School Nurse
It is Jesus that you seek when you dream of happiness; he is waiting for you when nothing else you find satisfies you; he is the beauty to which you are so attracted; it is he who provokes you with that thirst for fullness that will not let you settle for compromise; it is he who urges you to shed the masks of a false life; it is he who reads in your hearts your most genuine choices, the choices that others try to stifle. It is Jesus who stirs in you the desire to do something great with your lives, the will to follow an ideal, the refusal to allow yourselves to be ground down by mediocrity, the courage to commit yourselves humbly and patiently to improving yourselves and society, making the world more human and more fraternal.” -Pope John Paul II
